Attractions in Minehead

Minehead is often referred to as "The Gateway to Exmoor". The town is the ideal base for exploring the Somerset coastline and Exmoor National Park. Minehead is the starting point of the South West Coast path, Britains longest countryside walking trail.

The town of Minehead is beautifully situated between a backdrop of the lush North Hill and the beach. It also has a picturesque harbour.

One of the main attractions in Minehead is The West Somerset Railway which terminates here. All sorts of railway memorabilia is sold on the station platform. From here you can take the steam train to Bishops Lydeard, near Taunton, through some of Somerset's most picturesque scenery.

Also in Minehead you will find the Butlins Holiday Camp. If you are not staying there you can obtain a day pass which allows you access to all the facilities on offer, and makes for a great day out for families with children.

Other attractions in Minehead include the towns ornamental park, Blenheim Gardens. Minehead is also the home of Somerset's oldest golf club, the Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club.

Nearby attractions include Dunster Castle, situated above the medieval village of Dunster. The castle is owned by the National Trust and makes for a fascinating visit.

You may want to take a drive along Blue Anchor Bay to Watchet, a pretty habour town. Here you can find a statue of "The Ancient Mariner" from the poem by Samual Coleridge who lived not far away in the village of Nether Stowey. Not far from Watchet is the wildlife and adventure park "Tropiquaria".

The range of accommodation and attractions in Minehead make it a great base. It also has a good variety of restaurants, pubs, and clubs for evening entertainment. Minehead is the ideal location for anybody wishing to be within easy reach of Exmoor and the Somerset coastline, but with the benefits of the facilities of a medium sized town.
