Cycling in Somerset

Somerset is a great county for cyclists of all abilities. If you are not bringing your own bike then most tourist informations centres will have contact details for local cycle hire companies. For some gentle cycling in Somerset the flat landscape of the Levels make for a less strenuous ride. The landscape is criss-crossed with small dykes or "rhynes" and there are many picturesque towns and villages to visit along the way. For those wanting more of a challenge, there are the Mendips near Wells and Cheddar or the Quantocks north of Bridgwater, or you may prefer the wild landscape of Exmoor. Cycling in Somerset is a great way to appreciate the diverse scenery of this varied county.

The long distance 'West Country Way' cycle route (Bristol to Padstow) passes through some beautiful parts of Somerset. Information about this and other cycle routes can be obtained from the local Tourist Information Office.

A number of accommodation providers make special provision for cyclists and, to make your cycling in Somerset holiday even more enjoyable, there are some who will make arrangements for the transfer of luggage from one B&B to another.

Fast Tracks Mountain Biking offers guided weekend cycling tours of the Quantocks and Exmoor, all food and accommodation is provided. For more information click on the link below.
