Description

Cannington Golf Course, located just four miles from the historic town of Bridgwater and only twelve miles from Taunton, enjoys splendid views of the nearby Quantock Hills. It is a 9 hole, 18 tee course which is renowned for its ‘links-like’ appearance. It was designed by Michael Hawtree of Oxford, and built to the highest international specification in 1992 by Brian D. Pierson Ltd. The course offers both new and experienced players a satisfying and enjoyable game.

Driving Range

The fully automated driving range, constructed in 1999, offers the opportunity to warm up or practice your skills. There is a 10 bay floodlit range which is 300 yards long.

This Hawtree design is links-like in high summer. Subtle contours with big, deep bunkers and greens built to international standards. Arguably one of the best nine hole courses in the West of England.

Ron Macrow - Club Secretary and Golf Professional

Ron has been awarded a Fellowship of the Professional Golfers Association.

Ron is one of only thirty out of over 6,000 PGA Golf Professionals in the country to be given this given this award which is presented in recognition of experience and attainment in the role of Golf Professional.

Ron said: “My golfing career spans some 35 years, so it’s a very nice reward to have been given this award. Golf is all about playing to targets and for PGA professionals working in the game it’s important to have goals to work to… this is certainly a milestone in my career.

I really enjoy my role as the golf professional at the Cannington Golf Course which has been enhanced by being appointed as Bridgwater College’s Golf Academy Director (the Bridgwater College Golf Academy is one of nine sports academies available to full time students at the College). The two roles complement each other well since I particularly enjoy the coaching aspects of my job where practice and hard work bring genuine rewards to those with talent and perseverance.”
