Description

The Walled Gardens lie within the grounds of a mediaeval Priory, and many of its fine buildings, including the walls of the gardens, remain. Having undergone extensive redevelopment over the last few years, the gardens now have classic and contemporary features such as; the ‘hot’ herbaceous border; the blue garden; a sub-tropical walk; and a Victorian style fernery, amongst others. The gardens were offically opened by HRH Prince Edward in 2009 and have been awarded the quality mark as a tourist attraction from VisitBritain.

Within the gardens can also be found the Botanical Glasshouse, where Arid, Sub-Tropical and Tropical plants can be seen. Two smaller gardens within the walls; The Bishop’s and Australasian Gardens are areas of real tranquillity. Well-hidden, the gardens are a gem waiting to be discovered!
