Description
This welcoming and incredibly inspiring place lies in a stunning location in North Somerset’s beautiful Chew Valley - on the edge of the Mendip Hills, close to both Bristol and Bath.Its sensitively restored historic farm buildings lie at the heart of an enchanting 250 acre nature reserve, rich in wildflower meadows, ancient woodland and wildlife. The views over towards Chew Valley Lake are truly breathtaking.
Accommodation
Comfortable accommodation is available in the farmhouse and studios. The historic farmhouse retains many of its period features and offers comfortable en suite accommodation in 9 bedrooms, including 3 lovely family rooms. The restored 18th century cow sheds have been converted into 10 delightful self-catering studios.
Accommodation prices start from:
-£25 per person, self-catering
-£35 per person, bed and breakfast
-£65 per person, full board (including refreshments and three cooked meals).
Single supplement is £10
Minimum of 8 people on a B&B or full board basis
No minimum number for self-catering.
Out and about
If you’re looking to enjoy the beautiful Somerset countryside, steeped in history, myth and legend, then Folly Farm’s the perfect base from which to explore the stunning natural beauty of the Chew Valley and majestic Mendips.
It really would be very difficult to find a more tranquil and away-from-it-all setting. Yet awe-inspiring Cheddar Gorge, mystical Glastonbury and the cathedral city of Wells are all on the doorstep.
And for the culture vultures amongst you, vibrant Bristol and gentile Bath, with their theatres, galleries, museums and vibrant live music scenes, are both close by.
How about a night at the opera, a folk, jazz or rock gig, a tour of Banksy’s best, or a wallow in the Roman baths? You choose.
Activities
Cycling
North Somerset is renowned for its fantastic cycling and the West County Way, part of National Cycle Route 3, passes close by. Cyclists are always very welcome at Folly Farm.
Walking
Folly Farm is very popular with walking groups. The Two Rivers Way footpath winds it way along the River Chew, the Monarch’s Way passes close by and the Mendip Way is the main long-distance footpath up on the hills.
Arts and crafts
Inspiring art and craft courses, starting at only £35 per person, are run by expert tutors throughout the year, including willow sculpture and green woodwork days, oil pastel and silk painting workshops, watercolour weekends and barn owl sketching.
