THE SHOE MUSEUM, STREETThe Shoe Museum is in the High Street (opposite the Bear Inn) and contains a collection of footwear from Roman times to the present day, together with some shoemaking machinery.
There are shoes, buckles, fashion plates, showcards, hand tools, from many shoe brands, together with documents and photographs showing the history of the Clark family and its connection with the development of shoemaking in the 19th century in Street. Old Clarks television adverts, films on shoemaking and the story of Clarks are shown on dvd in the Museum Reception area.
There are also souvenir items to purchase – postcards, gift cards, pencils, books etc.
The Clarks Village is close by with its many factory outlets where top retail brands, including Clarks, can be purchased. The Village, together with the nearby High Street, also has a large choice of refreshment facilities.
The Museum is open 10.00 to 4.45 weekdays but closed on Bank Holidays and over the Christmas/New Year period.
