Description
Hestercombe Gardens welcomes visitors all year round. Covering more than 40 acres and with three different styles of garden there is always something different to see whatever the season and whatever the weather. From woodland walks to beautiful reflections in the lakes and ponds, from stunning stonework and dry stone walling to the beautiful plants, colours and scents from spring through autumn – all enhanced by truly amazing views across the Vale of Taunton to the Blackdown Hills in the distance.Hestercombe is unique in having three complete period gardens. The Georgian landscape, Victorian shrubbery and terrace and the formal Edwardian gardens combine to create one of Britain's premier garden sites widely recognised as being of international importance.
In 2003, the Heritage Lottery Fund made a grant of £3.7M towards a £4.9M restoration project that included converting the Victorian Stables into a Visitor Centre with restaurant and function facilities. The Visitor Centre was opened in May 2005 by HRH The Duke of Gloucester. It provides not only an improved visitor experience but also first class facilities for business/social functions and small conferences.
